GUIDELINES FOR DIGITAL FILES

Digital File and Color Requirements

We print -’as is’-meaning we do not modify or adjust your files other than cropping or
sizing.( Unless you choose this service) Therefore responsibility for color balance, lightness, darkness, etc.. understandably rests with the client.

The following guidelines will help:

File Types

We accept the following file types:

  • .tiff
  • .psd(photoshop)
  • .jpg.

Our first preference is .tiff

File Size

Files should be around 200-300 dpi at an image size close to the print size you are ordering.

Tip: Look at the file at 100% of the print size you are ordering- if the image breaks up- you may have to reduce the size of the print. If you would like to increase the file size we recommend that you not do it using the photoshop resampling feature- this is effective in downsizing, but generally not upsizing without alot of other ‘tweaking’. You will have much
better results if we do it for you.

Increasing Resolution and Image Size

We offer this service as an alternative to creating smaller sized prints when the file size and dpi are too small. This is accomplished with an effective specialized software that interpolates fractals. We can double or triple file size quite successfully- raising dpi to 300 or more. It you would like to take advantage of this service the cost is $10.00 per image. Check the box on Order page and specify in comments the file you want to ‘upsize’.

Photoshop and Color Correction

We offer this service for any files that may need adjustment. If you would like to take advantage of this service the cost is $10.00 per 1/4 hour. Check this option when ordering, it will calculate 1/4 hr ( $10.00 ), during which time most minor corrections can be made, but if upon reveiwing the file we see that more work will be involved, we will contact you with an estimated cost before proceeding.

Color should be in RGB mode

Tip: If you are not sure what the mode is - most digital files are RGB mode unless changed by you or somebody on purpose. If you use photoshop click edit/color settings - we recommend using the setting:  Adobe RGB (1998)- as this gives a wider color gamut.

Cropping

Most files for stretched canvas or standard proportions require some cropping. Try to order the print in the same proportion as your file to limit cropping. Where cropping is required we will use our best judgement as to what to crop out and are not responsible for overly cropped images. We generally crop evenly from all sides. If cropping is a concern- we recommend cropping your file first before uploading or specify in comments on order page what you would like cropped out and we will do our best to accomodate your request.

Borders

We automatically add 2” borders on all unstretched canvas and fine art paper reproductions. Please do not add borders to the file as it will be included in the image area.

Canvas Shrinkage when ordering unstretched canvas

Canvas is a fabric and some shrinkage is natural in the production process. Typically this is very light and the canvas can usually be stretched to the intended size. We do attempt to compensate for shrinkage- but because this is natural and uncontrollable we cannot guarantee exact sizes in unstretched canvas. Our recommendation is that you not cut or assemble bars or frames until you have the actual reproduction in hand.
